One-third of all doctors currently active today will be over the age of 65 in the next decade, as reported by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). This will likely contribute to a shortage of physicians, and lead to a number of medical practices transitioning ownership. Questions will arise during the process, such as: Who will care for my longstanding patients? What if the new owner isn’t a good fit for the practice? As the transition begins to take shape, stakeholders must underscore open communication and a unified, long-term vision.
