The United States has been under two declared emergencies related to the COVID-19 pandemic for more than three years. While COVID has by no means gone away in 2023, its impact is considerably lessened when compared to previous years. On January 30, 2023, the White House announced its intention to end the PHE on May 11, in the wake of the introduction of two bills in the House of Representatives that would have ended both declarations immediately.
