Hurricane Idalia caused massive amounts of damage to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on August 30 and 31, 2023. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has designated parts of Florida and Georgia and all of South Carolina as eligible for assistance. The IRS has also offered relief to taxpayers in these areas, partly by extending upcoming filing and payment deadlines. This article summarizes the impact of Hurricane Idalia, the areas designated as eligible for tax relief and the types of relief available.
