Transitioning to a health care model that is based on quality of care is often challenging—and even more challenging if physicians are disengaged from the process. Since most physicians have been compensated for using the traditional fee-for-service (FFS) protocol for years, it can be particularly difficult to demonstrate the benefits of shifting to high-quality care. In a value-based model, physicians will be rewarded for containing costs and delivering the best care possible, rather than on the amount of patients or volume of treatment provided.
