Fraud has been increasing at a rapid rate, and it is particularly disheartening to learn about people stealing from the youth athletic organizations they are managing. For example, a lacrosse league recently was the victim of a $90,000 theft, most likely committed by the league president over a four-year period.
Finally, parents and volunteers asked to see league records, but they were denied. A nonprofit that does not open its books for inquiry and inspection is likely hiding something—and that something is probably an embezzlement by whomever is handling the books.
